Cyn (Welsh) - Meaning before, earlier, or sooner.
It’s been ten years since the mine closed, and the village is still bleeding. A solitary pub remains with one patron inside, Emyr. Bitter about the past and indifferent to the future, he is confronted by the visit of Simon, an Englishman.
In this bittersweet drama set in the heart of the Welsh valleys, the audience are invited to laugh, cry and sing along to the songs of Max Boyce as we explore the past, present and future of Emyr’s little valley and ask the question:
Complete with Welsh wit and song, and based on real stories, the play not only describes the sense of belonging from that time but also invites you to feel a part of it. Accompanied by live covers of Max Boyce classics, Cyn carries the spirit of the valleys. The struggle, the joys, and the eventual collapse of life under coal is laid bare as the audience become part of a forgotten unit of hardened people.
