Cyn (2025)

Written as a third-year dissertation piece at university, Cyn is a play written about the communities that formed around coal mining and their subsequent decimation. It was awarded the Creative Practice Award at the University of Warwick, credited to Sam Rees (Writer), Jed Kain (Musical Director) and Seren Davies (Director). Following this success, it went on to appear at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe (under the company name ‘Nawr ond Wedyn’) where it enjoyed a very successful debut run with amazing reviews and an EFFTA award, before conducting two homecoming performances at Caerphilly Miners Centre and Onllwyn Welfare Hall. During this run, Buzz Magazine kindly left a review that would result in Cyn being shortlisted in their ‘Ones to Watch’ for 2026.

In 2026, Cyn embarks on more exciting journeys including on the 5th of February at Blackwood Miners Institution and at Llanharan Welfare Hall. In August 2026, Cyn will once again be performed at the Edinburgh Fringe festival from the 17th-22nd in The Stephenson Theatre at The Space @ Surgeon’s Hall.
